Choosing a camping site near water sources, using a sun tent, and investing in wind-generating equipment are things to keep in mind for a refreshing summer camping trip.
Summer is hot, but many people still choose to go camping as a form of summer vacation. In addition to monitoring the weather to choose the right time, some of the notes below will be useful for you when camping this summer. Experience is shared by Mr. Duy Pham, who has provided camping services for many years, and some members on the forum Invite each other to camp with more than 200,000 members.
Choosing a location
Areas near the sea, rivers, streams, lakes or primeval forests are suitable locations for summer camping. Locations near water sources help the surrounding space to be cooler. This is also a place for you to comfortably bathe and swim. However, you need to keep an eye on children.
Recently, camping on the lake has appeared in some places, bringing a new feeling and suitable for summer.
Choose a tent
Use a double-layer tent, which can protect against rain and heat. Currently, there are many types of tents sewn with UPF 50+ fabric that can block 98% of UV rays. These tents can be darker but limit heat gain.
With a double-layer tent, at night you only need to use a mesh layer to keep the space inside airy and prevent insects.
The important thing about a summer camping tent is to ensure ventilation. Therefore, you should choose a tent with mesh windows. These are large, symmetrical windows that both bring cool air inside and push hot air out, helping air circulate and preventing heat gain. If not ventilated, the tent will be stuffy, causing heat and discomfort for the people inside.
Tent pitching location
Always pitch the tent in the shade, avoid direct sunlight that is too much or too long, causing the tent and the space inside to absorb heat. The tent pitching location should be chosen under the shade of large trees, with stable shade all day long.
Cooling when the tent gets hot should also be considered. If it is still not cool enough, you can use a reflective shield or blanket to create more shade on the tent.
Bring heat-avoiding equipment
Mini portable air conditioners, rechargeable fans, mist fans, and handheld fans are necessary equipment to bring to cool the tent when camping in the summer. If you are near a power source, you can also bring regular fans. These devices are most needed at noon.
Most of the above equipment are usually quite expensive, you should find out in advance to rent them at places that provide camping services.
What to bring
An ice chest or a cooler (insulated, moisture-proof box) is a must-have item when camping in the summer. In addition to holding ice, these items are useful for food, green vegetables, fresh fruits for cooking.
You also need to bring more wet towels or cotton towels, wet and placed in the tent or around the neck or forehead, to help cool the body when the temperature rises.
Enough water
To have a refreshing and cooling trip, the food and drinks you bring or order must be suitable. Of which, drinking water is very important.
In addition to filtered water, you should bring soft drinks such as fruit juice. And of course, ice is needed. In addition, avoid drinking too many sugary or alcoholic drinks because they can dehydrate the body.
Appropriate schedule
Arranging time for reasonable outdoor activities is also something to keep in mind when going camping in the summer. At the time when the temperature is highest during the day, usually from 11am to 3pm, you should not go out, especially with children. You should only be active during cool times such as early morning or late evening. Instead, rest in tents or shady areas.
